Senior School Team

Amos Pilgrim - Assistant Principal, Year 8 Team Leader, Year 8 Teacher and Head of Community Service

Amos joined Medbury in 2017 having previously taught in a variety of Canterbury schools and for two years in London, UK. He has a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning from the University of Canterbury gained in 2008 and graduated from the National Aspiring Principals Programme NZ in 2016. In 2019 Amos is studying for his postgraduate certificate in Professional Supervision.


Alex Devereux - Year 8 Teacher and Co-Year 8 Team Leader

Alex has been at Medbury School since 2015. Prior to this, he taught at Avonhead School from 2013 - 2015 in a Year 7/8 class, while also being Head of Sport. He has a Bachelor of Sport Coaching from Canterbury University and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning.


Andrew Elvidge - Year 8 Teacher

 Andrew has taught in private schools both in New Zealand and overseas for many years, including five years at King’s School in Auckland.  This followed a rugby career that took him to Japan to live and play. Originally from Christchurch, Andrew and his wife Lesley and their two children have recently moved to Christchurch from Auckland. 


Suzanna Lind - Year 8 Teacher

Suzanna Lind joined Medbury in January 2018, having previously taught at St Joseph's School in Oamaru.


Brendan Collins - Year 7 Teacher and Acting Year 7 Team Leader

Brendan has been teaching at Medbury since 2010. He taught at Houghton Valley School in Wellington from 2004 for six years, as the ICT Coordinator and as a classroom teacher at Year 3 to 6 levels. Brendan holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in History and American Studies from University of Canterbury, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Teaching from the New Zealand Graduate School.



Richard Bath - Year 7 Teacher

Richard joined Medbury in 2016. Prior to this he taught at Ashgrove School in Rangiora for two years. He is originally from Texas and he obtained a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Public Relations and Spanish from Texas Tech University. Richard then went on to obtain a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching from Canterbury University.



Owen Foster - Year 7 Teacher

Owen has been teaching at independent schools in Christchurch since 1999 and began teaching at Medbury in 2008. Before embarking on a career in education he completed an LLB(Hons.) degree at the University of Canterbury.  Owen can often be found out on the sports field in his role as Cricket Co-ordinator at Medbury. 



Sarah Madgwick - Year 7 Teacher

Sarah has been teaching at Medbury since the beginning of 2015, prior to this she worked at Our Lady Star of the Sea School in Sumner. She has taught at all levels from Years 3 to 8 during her teaching career. She has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Education from Canterbury University and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning.


John Mahon - Year 7 Teacher

When travelling around England after receiving his teaching degree, John visited Rugby School in Warwickshire. The visit spurred a desire to teach at a prominent school in New Zealand and he began a career at Medbury School in 2004. In 2006 John took over the leadership of the Year 7 Syndicate, where he has taught since his arrival. In 2008 he also took on the role of Boarding Housemaster, a position that was to last for six years. John is extremely passionate about Medbury and all it offers - it has been very much a part of his life for many years. Mr Mahon is on a one year leave of absence in 2019.
