November - 2015 Canterbury Primary School Triathlon Championship Results

A small group of boys competed at the 2015 Canterbury Primary Schools Triathlon Championships on Thursday 26 November at Pegasus Township.  All the boys did very well, with Art Aitken and Sam Idiens winning the 9 year old and 10 year old races respectively.

November -
New Zealand Post Cup Final Winners

The Medbury 1st XI won the National Finals of the New Zealand Post Cup, which was played in Lincoln on 23 to 25 November.  The boys played some amazing cricket, with most games going down to the last over.  There were six teams in the competition, all of whom had won their respective district final.

October - District Finals New Zealand Post Cup Final

The Medbury 1st XI played in the District Finals at the end of the month and are now Canterbury regional champions and qualifies us for the national finals in November. This is the third time in four years that we’ve qualified for this tournament.

Medbury 171/1 beat Bohally Intermediate 85 all out.
Medbury 130/2 beat Darfield High School 58/8
Medbury 131/1 beat St Andrew’s College 65 all out.

September - Christchurch ActivePost Cup Final

The Medbury 1st XI played St Andrew's College on 16 September and after a great game have qualified for the District Finals in October.

On Tuesday 28 July ten Medbury teams travelled to St Andrew's College for the annual winter sports exchange.  Our 1st XI football and hockey teams proved too strong for the opposition, but St Andrew’s certainly did have a very impressive 1st XV and had a very good win.

Cricket Cup - Upper South Island Finals

  • Medbury beat Bohally Intermediate by 103 runs. (Thomas McKay 81 not out, Zach Gallagher 29 not out, Nicholas Lidstone 25)
  • Medbury beat Darfield High School by 20 runs. (Zach Gallagher 15, Thomas McKay 3 for 8, Zach Gallagher 3 for 8)
  • Medbury beat St Andrew's Preparatory School by 3 wickets with 1.3 overs remaining. (Will Greenslade 3 for 4, Ollie Curtis 2 for 24, Thomas McKay 21, Jordy Annand 16 not out, Zach May 15 not out)
  • Medbury won the tournament and now qualify for the National Finals in Palmerston North on 26-28 November 2014. This is the second time in three years, and the third time since 2008, that the 1st XI Medbury Cricket team have qualified for this.

Canterbury Metro Rugby Zones
 


Art Aitken and Sebastian May, both in 4P, were recently selected to play for one of the four Canterbury Metro Rugby Zones U9 Teams.  On Saturday 6 September the boys played for  Canterbury East Zone and were the winners of the tournament.   The tournament consisted of 3 x 30 minute games, they won the first, lost the second and won the third, which put them in the final against the team they lost against.  In the final they won 7 - 3 (35-15). Well done boys.

Also, well done to U10-U12 Medbury Metro Rugby Zone players.  This year we have the following boys playing in various zones teams.

On Thursday 10 April the 2014 Canterbury Primary School Swimming event took place at Selwyn Aquatic Centre.  A small group of Medbury boys took part and all swam very well.

February - Sports Exchange with St Andrew's College

On Wednesday 26 February three Cricket teams and the Top 8 Tennis team went to St Andrew's College for the first sports exchange of the year.
The boys all did extremely well and resulted in the following:

November - Medbury Take Primary Tennis Team Title

Congratulations to the Medbury Tennis Team who took part in the Tennis Summer Sports Tournament on 20 November and beat St Andrew's College in the final to take the Primary School's Title.
The boys played extremely well to beat the 21 teams from all over Canterbury.

October - Congratulations to Mr Hocquard



Micah Hocquard was announced as the winner of the Primary School division for the 2013 Warehouse Stationery NZ's Most Inspiring Teacher at the end of October.

Mr Hocquard has been at Medbury since 2009 and is currently a Year 8 teacher and a specialist Science and Maori teacher.  He was nominated by one of his current students, Sam Howard, who secretly completed the nomination form online and then campaigned amongst his fellow students to ensure Mr Hocquard won the title.
